The moon is thought to bring good weather and shed light to dark night. It was believed that trees cut during the new moon would make strong and durable wood. A child born on waxing moon would lead to a prosperous life. If a sled reindeer was left out during full moon, the sled needed to be turned upside down or otherwise the moon would drive the reindeer to exhaustion.
The Sun has always been a powerful symbol for people in North. During the summer months the Sun stays above the horizon and refuses to set until the fall comes. Many indigenous people worship sun as one of the most important deities.
Ainut is located in Kittila, North Central Lapland, 150 miles north from the Arctic Circle. It employs two local artisans: Ari "Lake's End" and Milla "Bad River" who have specialized silver and reindeer antler jewelry and traditional Lapland crafts like shaman drums and reindeer antler carvings.
