The Kuksa is a special drinking cup of hunters and reindeer herders in Lapland, Finland. Today you can find lot of "fake kuksas" but the only Real kuksa is the one made of birch burl. It is soaked in salt water for several weeks, then let dry for a few weeks before carving... so making one is not a fast process! This method preserves the wood and it will not crack or hold flavors, but it has a little salty taste the first time you use it. After that it will never hold any taste!
Laplanders have a personal Kuksa that stays with them throughout their lifetime and has been used by Laplanders for as long as anyone can remember. They use it for everything they drink; coffee, tea, vodka and water from the stream.
Kuksas are durable and long lasting while light enough to carrying a backpack or on a belt. The Kuksa is made from renewable materials and so it is a true nature product. The leather straps on these Kuksas are reindeer leather. A Kuksa is more than a drinking cup, it's a lifelong companion.
Kuksa do not require any special care. A quick rinse after use is all that it needs.
