Ainut is located in Inari, North Eastern Lapland, 190 miles north from the Arctic Circle. It employs two local artisans who have specialized silver and reindeer antler jewelry and traditional Lapland crafts like shaman drums and reindeer antler carvings.
The village of Inari is a center for Sami culture. The exhibitions of the Sami Museum Siida and the Northern Lapland Nature Center located in Inari, present the history of the northern peoples and the special characteristics of their lives in the course of a year. The Inari village also has a number of handicraft workshops and shops where the visitor can purchase genuine Lapland handicrafts.
The Sámi drum contains many mysteries. The old Sámi religion was founded on an animistic world-view and a shamanistic form of worship in which drumming on the "runebomme" (ritual drum) and traditional chanting, yoiking, were of great importance. Nature was considered life-giving, and mountains, stone formations and lakes could be of help to the people if they worshipped them and brought them sacrificial gifts. Natural phenomena were gods.
